Bhutan measures its success in Gross National Happiness, caps its visitor numbers, and keeps two-thirds of the country under forest — the only carbon-negative nation on earth. Travel here feels different: unhurried, uncrowded, and everywhere threaded with living Buddhist culture.
The classic journey runs through the western valleys — Paro, Thimphu and Punakha — between dzongs the size of citadels, farmhouse dinners and prayer-wheel villages, finishing with the walk up to Taktshang, the Tiger's Nest, pinned to its cliff 900 m above the valley floor.
