Trip overview

The journey

The Gokyo valley is the Khumbu's quieter masterpiece: a chain of turquoise glacial lakes beside the Ngozumpa Glacier, crowned by Gokyo Ri — a viewpoint many trekkers rate above Kala Patthar, with Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu in a single sweep. The trails are calmer than the Base Camp route, the villages smaller, and the scenery every bit as vast.

A fine choice for trekkers who want the Everest region without the Base Camp traffic, on a slightly gentler schedule.

Trip highlights

  • The turquoise lakes of the Gokyo valley
  • Sunrise from Gokyo Ri (5,357 m)
  • Four 8,000 m peaks in one panorama
  • Ngozumpa Glacier — the longest in Nepal
  • Namche Bazaar and Sherpa villages
  • Far quieter trails than the Base Camp route

Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek with Heli Return

This is a scenic and relatively short trek in the Everest (Khumbu) region that takes you to the base of one of the most beautiful mountains in the world — Ama Dablam (6,812 m). Adding a helicopter return eliminates the long walk back, saves time and energy, and offers spectacular aerial views of the Himalayas.
