Big-mountain valley, one day's drive from Kathmandu

Trip overview

The journey

Langtang is the closest big-mountain valley to Kathmandu — no flights, one spectacular drive — and among the most rewarding weeks in the Himalaya. The trail follows the Langtang Khola through forest alive with langurs, past rebuilt Tamang villages, to Kyanjin Gompa beneath the 7,000 m wall of Langtang Lirung. Above the monastery, Kyanjin Ri delivers one of Nepal's widest panoramas.

Walking here directly supports communities rebuilt after 2015 — travel that matters, an easy drive from the capital.

Trip highlights

  • Kyanjin Gompa and its famous yak-cheese factory
  • Kyanjin Ri viewpoint (4,773 m)
  • Langtang Lirung's 7,000 m wall
  • Tamang villages and hospitality
  • Langur-filled forest of the lower valley
  • No domestic flights required

Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek with Heli Return

This is a scenic and relatively short trek in the Everest (Khumbu) region that takes you to the base of one of the most beautiful mountains in the world — Ama Dablam (6,812 m). Adding a helicopter return eliminates the long walk back, saves time and energy, and offers spectacular aerial views of the Himalayas.
