North of the great peaks lies a different world: a high desert plateau averaging 4,500 m, where monasteries the size of towns cling to hillsides and prayer flags stream over every pass. Tibet is not a trekking destination first — it is a pilgrimage landscape, best travelled slowly and overland.

From Kathmandu we run the classic overland routes: to Lhasa and its great monasteries, to the north face of Everest at Rongbuk, and to Mt. Kailash — the mountain at the centre of four religions' worlds, circled on foot by pilgrims from across Asia.
